Congrats to Heather on her 2nd place

finish at the Hexham International Heptathlon Meeting!

Better late than never as Kovalova wins - Biglow finishes 2nd

Jul 23 2007

by Bill McGuirk, Evening Chronicle

MISPLACED baggage failed to stop Lyudmila Kovalova winning the heptathlon at the Hexham International Events meeting at Tynedale Athletics Park. The Ukraine athlete was given permission to contest the first of her seven events two hours late after her luggage containing her clothing went missing at the airport. However, the setback didn’t deter her from going on to regain the Hexham title she last won in 2002.

Despite no-heighting in the high jump, America’s Heather Biglow finished in second place, with Great Britain junior international Claire Jaggard third with a new personal best score by nearly 200 points.

Tynedale’s former double decathlete champion Kelly Rodmell was fourth.
Joost Van Bennekom of the Netherlands came close to erasing Dean Macey’s meeting best score from the record books when winning the men’s decathlon.

The Dutchman won by 600 points from Britain’s Edward Dunford, with another Dutch athlete, Johan van de Berg, in third place.
