Veteran middle distance runner Bobby Fischer had already committed to race at this year’s “Carlsbad 5000” – the nation’s premiere 5K -  before making a “gut-feel” decision to enter the 400-meter dash at this year’s National Masters Indoor Championships in Bloomington, Indiana. Racing 800’s, 1500’s and 5K’s is routine for Fischer, who has also competed 27 marathons, but sprinting an “open” 400 at a national championship was a “first” for the talented 72-year-old.

   Twins Emma and Rich Sanchez, sophomores on the Fairview High School track team, didn’t compare notes before running the 400-meter dash at last weekend’s Boulder Invitational track meet, but both ran in the same lane, both finished 2^nd place, and both ran Personal Bests. No one accused them of copying each other’s work, they just happened to have “break-thru” performances at the same distance on the same day. Emma’s time was 60:04 while Rich’s was 50.98.

 We're finally getting all caught up on all of our runners' accomplishments these past months; Will Dixon, Kelley Robinson, Britt Steiner, Val Eipper, and nell Rojas all made great performances in the last few weeks! Full details appear under the bump.

   The USATF Cross Country National Junior Olympics were just this past weekend, on December 10^th, in Myrtle Beach, SC. A number of our runners made it all the way here, and floored us all with their skill!

   Whoops, we neglected to include a few of our Turkey Trotters in our last Running Shorts. So here’s a special “back issue” just for them!

  Hello, runners! I hope you enjoyed your Thanksgiving, because some of our athletes sure did. The annual wave of Turkey Trots has taken up the last couple of weeks, and we had some great results.

 Ric Rojas is pleased to announce the 2012 Junior Winter Track and Field Program. The program is now in its 20^th year and will again be hosted by the University of Colorado’s Athletic Department with practices held at Balch Fieldhouse on the CU-Boulder Campus.

                Hey runners! We’ve got some great things to report on this week.  Nell Rojas has been running in duathlons in Spain, and Aaron Grider competed in a Run/Climb for the American Lung Association.

Hello runners! It’s been a fairly busy week.  The 2011 Fall Junior Program is building up towards the XC Junior Olympics (completely optional for competitors), and just yesterday, we announced our Winter Bridge Program.  In the meantime, we have some races to report on!

Cross Country is almost over! What to do?
